DESCRIPTION

Infrared proximity sensor made by Sharp Part #GP2Y0A02YK0F has an analog output that varies from 2.8V at 15 cm to 0.4V at 150 cm with a supply voltage between 4.5 and 5.5VDC. The sensor has a Japanese Solderless Terminal(JST) Connector. We recommend purchasing the related pigtail below or soldering wires directly to the back of the module.

 

This sensor is great for sensing objects up to 5 feet away!

 

GP2Y0A02YK0F is a distance measuring sensor unit, composed of an integrated combination of PSD (position sensitive detector) , IRED (infrared emitting diode) and signal processing circuit. The variety of the reflectivity of the object, the environmental temperature and the operating duration are not influenced easily to the distance detection because of adopting the triangulation method. This device outputs the voltage corresponding to the detection distance. So this sensor can also be used as a proximity sensor.

 

Interfacing to most microcontrollers is straightforward: the single analog output can be connected to an analog-to-digital converter for taking distance measurements, or the output can be connected to a comparator for threshold detection. The detection range of this version is approximately 20 cm to 150 cm (8″ to 60″).

 

Note: This sensor draws current in large, short bursts, and the manufacturer recommends putting a 10 µF capacitor or larger across power and ground close to the sensor to stabilize the power supply line
